Waterbury Research Laboratory
Waterbury VT
The Agriculture and Natural Resources Laboratory provides 32,000 square feet of laboratory, office and support space for the State of Vermont. The building’s scale, materials and forms were designed to harmonize with the original 19th Century brick buildings of the Waterbury State Complex campus. Located on the southwest edge of the Complex, the Laboratory’s shape, sitting, and landscaping strengthen the southern edge of the Complex while facilitating future expansion of both wings.
The two story steel and brick building includes a central administrative drum housing offices and support spaces. Flanking the drum are two wings containing laboratory spaces. Separation of the laboratory wings allows isolation of incompatible functions and promotes safe and efficient operation of the facility. State-of-the-Art ventilation and exhaust systems are managed by a digital control system to accommodate variable operating schedules.
