The existing wood frame building is one of the original College buildings in the State and is on the State Historic Register. Northern Architects was asked to develop plans for a thorough renovation of the historic building to bring it into conformance with modern codes and standards. The work included correction of numerous Life Safety Code violations, installation of new interior surfaces, modification of the building to be accessible to persons with disabilities, development of College wide meeting and conference spaces, development of new modern bathroom and shower facilities, replacement of the electrical and fire alarm systems and installation of an elevator. The work was accomplished during a condensed five month construction period and was completed in time for the Fall semester of 1989.
