The Rita L. Bole Center expands the athletic facilities of Lyndon State College with a 21,500 square foot addition to the original Student Activities Building. The new addition contains a gymnasium, swimming pool, racquetball court and support facilities. Because of its location adjacent to a soccer field and pond,
the addition is rotated off the existing building. A new lobby rotunda was designed to respond to the facility’s complex circulation, takes full advantage
of scenic pond views and makes effective use of overhead day light.

The program required architectural and mechanical systems able to accommodate high humidity levels within the pool area of the building to prevent moisture damage. The final design includes a dehumidification system that recovers heat from the moist air for reuse in heating the building. The
design also resolved long-standing building and safety code violations within
the existing building.
