Hannaford Career Center
Mainelli Road Building
Middlebury, VT

Since its construction in 1968, the Hannaford Career Center has offered high school students and adult learners of Addison County a variety of vocational training programs. The steady evolution of job opportunities and the dramatic changes in the technologies that underlie many industries have changed the nature of the vocational training programs needed to properly prepare Vermont students to enter the workforce. In 2001 the Hannaford School district contacted Northern Architects to modernize the aged facility.

After careful consideration of other options, the School District decided to relocate several programs to a new building. The new Mainelli Road Building will house the popular vehicle repair portions of the Hannaford curriculum. This building will provide appropriate hands on learning space, allowing students
to train with vehicles ranging in size from small sports cars and tractors to large agricultural and earth moving machinery. The 25,000 square foot building incorporates the latest technologies found in modern vehicle repair shops. Students will benefit from the experience of working in facilities similar to
those they will encounter in their future work, with features such as various size vehicles lifts and racks and an overhead crane.
