Fair Haven Grade School
Fair Haven VT
The Fair Haven Elementary School, an important local landmark on the Vermont State Register of Historic Places, was in need of improvements and repairs to a number of its important systems in order that the building remain a viable location for the elementary school.
The primary focus of the work was an upgrade to the building entrances, hallways and restroom facilities to promote accessibility for persons with disabilities, and repairs and modernization of the existing heating and ventilation systems to promote energy efficiency and greater comfort for building users.
The building’s mechanical system was updated to include:
- Replacement of electrical kitchen appliances with commercial gas appliances
- Replacement of all of the domestic water and sanitary piping in the 1916 building
- Replacement of the existing oil-fired boilers and installation of a new gas-fired domestic hot water heater
- Removal of all existing unit ventilators in classrooms and other areas
- Installation of a new system of supply and return ductwork, and central ventilation system including a roof-mounted make-up air unit with heat recovery
- Installation of new hot water baseboard radiation heating in each room
- Installation of a new digital control system
