Barnard Elementary School
Barnard, VT
Northern Architects was hired initially by the School Board to study the feasibility of expanding the Barnard Elementary School. The study evaluated several sites and approaches in terms of function and cost and when complete, led to a town vote to renovate and add to the existing school. The addition tripled the size of the school and ended years of costly tuition to students of the adjacent town. Adverse soil conditions dictated the use of an innovative permit process for wastewater disposal. Within the constraints of a very tight site, the school provides classroom, library, multi-purpose, and administrative space for 120 students.
