Aldrich Public Library
Barre, VT
Northern Architects prepared an accessibility study of this historic 12,000 square foot, six level, granite library built in 1907. The study involved investigating conditions of the existing building, evaluating life safety and accessibility code compliance, and assisting the library board in developing a preliminary, 20-year library services program. This phase of the project was completed with a written report and a presentation to the City Council in October 1993.
For the second phase of this project, Northern Architects designed a 7,800 square foot addition to the existing building, as well as interior modifications to make the library and top floor museum/gallery fully accessible. Construction documents were finished in the Fall of 1999 and construction was completed by August 2000.
